Splitbeard Bluestem is a native ornamental warm-season perennial bunchgrass. It grows up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Native to meadows, plains and open woodlands in well drained or sandy soils with low fertility. Prefers full sun, but can tolerate partial shade.
Summer foliage is a silvery blue-green turning copper, red, and bronze in the fall. From late summer through fall, fluffy, silver seed heads catch the sun. Looks beautiful in many settings including meadows, cottage gardens, open woodland areas or planted in groups.
Plants are highly flamable, and should be planted away from structures.
