North American Native
Helianthus occidentalis in general are known as western sunflower. This subspecies, dowelinanus, has been removed by the USDA, but we are keeping it attached, as it is the designation of the eastern subspecies. Seed collected along the Greenbriar River in WV. Short in stature, but adaptable to many sites in full sun. Deer and drought tolerant, they thrive in dry shallow soils, rocky soils, and clay. Attract butterflies and pollinators, and birds to their valuable seed source. Great cut flower.
